All about Minik!
Exploring the great outdoors. Minik is actually a good hunter so I try to keep her inside to protect the local wildlife.
Almost nine years ago, I heard the sound of a small animal in a wood shed. I thought it was a bird, but it was a really small kitten. She must have been separated from her clowder (a group of cats - I looked it up!) or was abandoned for being the smallest. Either way, she immediately crawled up on my shoulder and has been with me ever since.
Her name is Minik, which means ‘tiny’ in Turkish. I initially wanted to call her Panther, but called her Minik because she was smaller than my other cat, Lagertha (I’ll write a whole post about her later on). The name Minik stuck.
I’ve been lucky enough to travel and live in different countries, and Minik has been with me every step of the way. She would carefully check every apartment I lived in and loved looking out of different windows
Her eyes get so big and cute, especially when she's in little hunter mode.
Minik loves to play with hairbands (don’t worry, I am careful that they don’t break and she won’t swallow them). She basically taught us to play fetch with her and even sometimes plays fetch with herself - she will hold the hairband in her mouth then use her foot to flick it away!
But the good has always outweighed the bad. Yes, she may knock my beads all over the floor, but then she’ll sit with me and help me relax. She greets me at the door every time I come in and will snuggle with me before going to bed.
It hasn’t always been easy, though: Getting flights arranged, getting sick (she lost her voice when I fostered another cat) and getting her teeth removed (a genetic condition) were all very stressful times. She’s also naughty and is always digging through the compost looking for chicken bones.
I am proud to be obsessed with my cat, and I bet a lot of you are obsessed with yours. I can’t believe it’s been nine years and I hope that we have many more together. I put the comments on - talk about your cats below!
